The National Football League’s San Diego Chargers have played their home games in the same stadium since 1967. Back then it was called San Diego Stadium, in the 1981 the stadium was renamed after the news writer that built up a great deal of support for the stadium Jack Murphy, and finally in 1997 the Qualcomm company bought the naming rights of the stadium for $18 million and will have the naming rights to the stadium until 2017. Until this year the Chargers shared Qualcomm Stadium with Major League Baseball’s San Diego Padres. It became one of the quirks of the stadium that there would be infield sand in the middle of the football field. This will be the first year that the Chargers don’t have to play in the sand on the field.

Qualcomm Stadium has gone through a number of renovations and is one of the NFL’s nicer stadiums. In 1998 the stadium hosted the world’s biggest spectacle in Super Bowl XXXII which was the first of two John Elway Super Bowl wins. Qualcomm Stadium features a number of amenities that can still keep it competitive with the more updated stadiums you see around today’s league. These amenities include 100 luxury suites, over 7,000 club seats, and the Chargers Gold Club, which is available to season ticket holders and gives them service at their seats and the right to use to air conditioned lounges.
