The New York Giants and the New York Jets call the Meadowlands, which is actually in New Jersey, home. The stadium was originally built for the Giants in 1976. In 1984 the Jets moved in and became the co-tenants with the Giants. The stadium has played host to a countless number of playoff games for both the Giants and the Jets. Since the stadium was built for the Giants the stadium is color coordinated for the Giants franchise. When the Jets have home games they put up green banners and put up green bunting all over the stadium to help the Jets fans feel like they are at home and not like they are borrowing the stadium from the Giants.

The process to get the stadium up all started in 1967 when a local New Jersey paper suggested that the city build a new sports complex with a football, basketball and baseball stadium. The Giants were then enticed to leave the confines of Yankee Stadium for a home all to themselves and in 1970 the Giants signed a 30 year lease for a 75,000 seat stadium that would be fully constructed for the 1976 season.

The stadium also plays host to a number of events other than just being the home field for both the Giants and the Jets. It’s been known to have incredible musical tours play there. The New Jersey State Fair is being held there in 2004 and it will also be hosting an international incident when two soccer powers collide. On August 1, 2004 the Portuguese soccer club FC Porto will take on the Turkish soccer club Galatasaray SK. This year the stadium will also play host to two college clashes. The first will showcase the Notre Dame Fighting Irish against the Navy Midshipmen. The second will pit Hampton against Morgan State university.
