The home of the Detroit Lions is Ford Field. The field
was constructed for the 2002 season. This marks the first
time since before moving to the Silverdome in 1975 that
the Lions actually played their home games in the city
of Detroit and not in Pontiac, which is a surrounding
suburb of the metropolitan area. Shortly after opening
up the stadium the National Football League announced
that Ford Field would be the site of the 2006 Super Bowl
which would be Super Bowl XL.
When attending a Detroit Lions
football game the average fan is subjected to more
than just a football game. The park features a number
of areas that hoping to enhance the “fan experience.” The first is the Comcast
Family Fun Zone. The Family Fun Zone provides a safe
haven for football fans that want to bring their children
to football games and not have to worry about rowdy and
rude football fans. Within the Zone the sale and consumption
of alcohol are prohibited in addition to the use of profanity.
Another feature of the stadium is the Ah! Mooré coffee
and specialty shop. The shop showcases a wide variety
of drinks with a full selection of coffee and espresso
flavors, in addition to a full menu of sandwiches, baked
goods and soups. The stadium also features a cup holder
in every single seat of the stadium and also boasts to
have the “best sightlines in the NFL” because
of a design that leaves out the traditional club and
suite levels therefore lowering the upper level.
