The Jacksonville Jaguars call EverBank Field their home during the eight games they play there. In 1990 the National Football League announced that it would expand the league to 30 teams. The city of Jacksonville had set aside $60 million to renovate the Gator Bowl in hopes that they could lure one of the NFL’s expansion franchises. In November of 1993 the city was awarded a franchise and opted to almost completely tear down the Gator Bowl and rebuild it from the ground up. The stadium took a little under 20 months to build and was ready for the Jaguars first game. It was the first time in NFL history that an expansion team played their first game in a new stadium.

EverBank Field also hosts a number of different events like the Toyota Gator Bowl. The Gator Bowl is a postseason NCAA Football game that pits the number two team in the ACC against the number two team in the Big East or Notre Dame. The stadium is also the site where many big time artists will put on concerts.

In 2005 what was then known as the EverBank Field hosted the NFL Super Bowl XXXIX, which as you know the Super Bowl is the most watched event in the world every year. The Super Bowl game matches up the best team from the NFC against the best team in the AFC to play for the Lombardi Trophy.

Former stadium names were Alltel Stadium during the years of 1997 and 2006. The name Jacksonville Municipal Stadium was used in the beginning for the years 1995-1996 then in 2007 to the year 2009. The name was changed to EverBank Field in 2010 until the current date.
